997 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 model manufactured and sold by German manufacturer Porsche between 2004 (as Model Year 2005) and 2012. The 997 is the most commercially successful 911 of all time, having sold 100,000 units of the first generation alone between its introduction in 2005 and July 2007.

The 997 Turbo debuted in February 2006 at the Geneva Motor Show. It featured a new front bumper with LED turn signal strips in the air intakes; the fog lamps were moved to the corners of the bumpers. Large air vents fore and aft of the rear wheels provide other obvious visual cues of the Turbo model. Also featured was a retractable rear wing, as used on the 996 Turbo.

The engine was based on the rugged and reliable 964/GT1 design, rated at 470 hp and 460 lb·ft. The turbochargers are fitted with a two-stage resonance intake system. The unit uses two BorgWarner VTG turbos, a first for Porsche. The Variable Turbine Geometry incorporates guide vanes on the turbine wheel that change their angle of attack with exhaust speed, reducing boost lag at low speeds while opening up to prevent excessive back pressure at high RPMs.

The optional Sport Chrono package allows the 911 Turbo to overboost for ten seconds, increasing peak torque over a narrow RPM range.

Electric Sunroof, Top Tinted Windscreen, Tiptronic S, Rear Parking Assist, Sport Chrono Package Plus, Adaptive Sports Seats, Homelink, Alu Look Instrument Surround, CDC-4 CD Changer, PCM Telephone Module, 3 Piece Alu Steering wheel, Porsche VTS.

The Basalt black presents beautifully with the colour concept changing with different exposure to light. Studio, Sun and Showroom provide a trio of different aspects to the car’s appearance – enhancing the well proportioned 997 body. With distinctive smooth lines and oval bi-xenon headlights, this is classic 911 but with the more aggressive Turbo angles; from a modified front end, wide wheel arches and the rear featuring a redesigned wing spoiler and bumper.

The car presents in excellent condition with typical areas such as lights, mirrors and rear arches showing almost no signs of use. Trim and plastics are also in fine condition with no scratches or crazing, along with all the other glass, windows and light fittings.

The 997 maintains that perfect Porsche balance of style and substance with a cabin swathed in leather and graced with plenty of tech. The adaptive sports seats retain excellent integrity and show no abnormal signs of wear with stitching and contour in fine condition. Switchgear can often fall foul of grubby fingers and sharp nails although buttons and dials read crisp and clean. The cabin here presents near perfectly with side sills, gearbox tunnel and carpets all appreciably fresh and unmarked.

Sport Chrono package plus present here offers more than a dial in the centre of the dash, it offers a more sensitive throttle map alongside altering PSM (Porsche Stability Management) via the Sport button to allow further exploration of the chassis as well as ability to allocate personal settings for up to three different ignition keys. Drivers’ memory seat and Sunroof offer further considerations for Grand Touring capability.

The flat 6 is unmistakable Porsche on start up, purposeful yet civilised. The engine performs admirably with a tight, tactile gearshift and the Tiptronic ‘S’ gearbox pulling through the gears with perfect German precision and huge amounts of torque low down from the variable geometry turbos.

The hallmark 997 Turbo alloys present in excellent condition and look spectacular against the black coachwork. Michelin Pilot Sport rubber graces all four corners, N2 Porsche rated, all displaying good tread depth.

Brakes show very well, with clean calipers and plenty of material left on both disc and pad.

Delivered late 2006 and registered on a 56 plate, this 997 has an all OPC stamped service book and has been maintained under a Porsche approved warranty from new and up until 2015.

A full book pack is accounted for alongside the spare key and all associated service paperwork including the original purchase invoice.
