Brabus, founded 1977 in Bottrop (Ruhr Area), Germany, is a high-performance aftermarket tuning company which specializes in Mercedes-Benz, Smart, and Maybach vehicles. Klaus Brackman and Bodo Buschmann established the company in 1977, the name deriving from the combined first three letters of their last names. Brabus became the largest Mercedes tuner, other than Mercedes-AMG which became a DaimlerChrysler affiliate in the 1990s.
Brabus’s primary focus is to achieve maximum engine performance through the increase of horsepower and torque. Customers can either buy cars from Brabus, or send in their car to be customized and/or overhauled. Customers ordering a car directly involves Brabus purchasing a particular model from Mercedes and then modifying it according to the customer’s requests. Brabus is known for providing expensive tuning and custom solutions. Brabus also offers cosmetic modifications including low profile spoilers, bodykits, carbon fiber splitters, and multi-piece alloy wheels. Other upgrades include racing LSDs, open racing exhaust systems, twelve-piston disc brakes, and engine remapping. Customers can also have complete engine overhauls, or have new crate engines from AMG modified for them.
In 2012 Brabus were to develop a kit for the then current SL 500, named the B50, which featured a host of engine, drivetrain and styling upgrades.

Brabus will always make a bold statement in appearance and this B50 is no different. This factory example has been exposed to the full styling exercise with full front and rear aprons, side skirts and rear spoiler – generating a visual impact that strikes a perfect chord between style and aggression. Brabus accents appear throughout with emblems and logos leaving no doubt that this is no small departure from the regular SL.
Having covered only nominal mileage since production the Obsidian Black metallic paintwork presents as new; unmarked and swirl free.
Traditional Mercedes core values remain here with the latest technology and finest materials available. Stitched leather, aluminium and carbon combine with four striking air vents, reminiscent of aircraft engines, to dominate the dash arrangement whilst a clear and simple infotainment display sits atop radio / bluetooth and the climate control functions.
The climate cooled / heated Amber fine perforated leather is beautifully soft and supple and retains factory contour / shape with no creases or marks to speak of.
The Brabus content in the cabin is a little more reserved, with a set of entrance strips, pedals and a wheel badge showing the model designation. A chassis plate also sits on top of the carbon finished storage box.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Performance is now more aligned with AMG variants thanks to the PowerXtra performance kit. A further 84hp has been coaxed from the TwinTurbo V8 thanks to a reworked ECU and a stainless steel exhaust system. In the interest of Type Approval it has been noted that economy figures of this engine surpass the standard Mercedes figures!
The 7G Tronic gearbox retains the same calibration of the Mercedes variant – offering smooth and refined behaviour in Auto mode, whilst much more reactive in Sports or Manual override with the extended Brabus Shift paddles.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The 5 spoke Double Design Monoblock R wheels are finished in Liquid Titanium smoked with a full polished face. The wheels are unmarked and shod in as new Yokohama Advan Sport rubber.
Brakes are carried over from the SL500 with huge 4 piston calipers to front; feelsome, powerful and easy to modulate they are more than a match for the extra power available.
This SL was sent straight to Brabus from new and holds a corresponding Brabus chassis number. Having been stored carefully in a collection the car has been brought to market for the first time.
The car is currently under going registration in the UK – all taxes have been paid.
