In October 2015, BMW revealed the new flagship 2-Series, the M2. It is an indirect successor to the 1-Series M Coupé. The M2 Coupé will begin production in late 2015 and go on sale in the UK in April 2016, and will be making its world debut at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The car is powered by the BMW N55 engine, tuned for 365 bhp. With the 6-speed manual gearbox, the M2 will accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds, or 4.3 seconds if equipped with the 7-speed DCT automatic. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, but the limiter can be raised to 168 mph as an option. Although a convertible M2 is rumored for production, only a coupé variant has been confirmed.
The BMW 2 Series Coupé and Cabrio are luxury compact coupés and convertibles produced by German manufacturer BMW since 2013; they are part of the 2 Series lineup. Although it is the successor of the 1-Series coupé, it is continuing the BMW 02 coupés as a successor in that segment.
The name, 2-Series, is based on BMW’s rationalization of its model designations reserving odd numbers for 4-door sedans and even numbers for 2-door coupés and coupé-like cars.

The latest incarnation from BMW M Power reveals the blockbuster M2 in menacing Mineral Grey. As you would expect the depth and quality of the finish is first class, perfectly accentuating the style and aggression of this compact sports coupe. Built in the same vein as the successful 1M predecessor, styling additions include a heavily structured front bumper with winglets to aid cooling whilst a new side feature line and chrome highlights house the repeater lights
To the rear a small boot lip spoiler and a prominent rear bumper house an integral diffuser with M division’s signature quad tailpipes. Together, the exterior design changes are claimed to reduce drag by 5% as well as reduce lift by up to 35% over the standard 2 Series.
The familiarity of the latest M Power variants is most welcome here; a blend of style, comfort and the latest tech with M specific switchgear accented by a naked carbon fibre weave. The electronic memory seats (also fitted with optional lumber support) are framed by intricate blue stitching throughout, offer a full range of adjustment while the M Stitched wheel is adjustable for both reach and rake to find that perfect driving position. With 3 driver modes available the Turbocharged 3 litre performance can be turned up or pared back accordingly.
With Navigation and Bluetooth as standard the specification is further improved by Heated seats, Harmon Kardon, USB, Apple car play, Enhanced bluetooth with wireless charging and Wifi hotspot preparation.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Unlike the more powerful S55-designated twin turbocharged unit found in the M3, the M2’s aluminium block engine relies on a single turbocharger that uses a twin-scroll process to boost induction, as with BMW’s regular six-cylinder petrol-engined models.
The DCT gearbox is a revelation and, working alongside an Overboost function, the car feels totally engaging – get up and go rapid whilst retaining sublime refinement.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Wrapped in the ultimate road going Michelin Super Sport rubber the 437M blade alloys present unmarked with a Jet Black insert and diamond cut faces.
The M division have only recently paid serious attention to sustained braking capabilities and the 4 pot front / 2 pot rear fixed calipers are now more than a match for the performance on offer.
This M2 is as new having covered a nominal mileage. Delivered March 2017 on a ’17 plate that benefits from the latest upgraded I-drive software.
Naturally it is still covered by BMW’s 3 year / unlimited mileage warranty, a 5 year service pack and is available immediately.
