Throughout the years from the first incarnation as the E30, the M3 has become the benchmark vehicle against which most sporting saloons are compared. despite aggressive competition from Mercedes-AMG and the Audi quattros.
The fourth generation M3 was first announced in March 2007 at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. Before its production BMW originally set out to name it the M4 along with the rest of the 3 Series range, however due to the interest in retaining the M3 line and its iconic status, this change was soon abandoned.
In mid 2012 the BMW M3 Limited Edition 500 was launched in the UK and offered with an enhanced specification over the standard car. BMW only built 500 Limited Edition models in both coupé and convertible bodystyles. Although the Limited Edition 500 is mechanically unchanged over the standard car, BMW included extra equipment worth more than £4000, as standard.
The model was available in three colours: Imola Red, Mineral White and Santorini Blue, reflecting the colours of the iconic ‘M’ badge. Each model has “One of 500” laser cut into the dashboard inlay. The cabin is trimmed in BMW’s extended Novillo leather and features stitching to match the exterior colour.

Detailing prep in house ensure the fantastic colour palette on this limited edition remains every bit as special as the car itself.
The 500 model wears Shadowline exterior trim and black alloy wheels and the grille surround, side gills with tailpipes finished in dark chrome, a perfect contrast to the bright blue coat of paint.
The well designed folding hard top is easy to use and with just one button neatly stowed effortlessly providing both the benefits of a full coupe or convertible cruising when the weather allows.
The interior provides a contrast to the striking exterior paint. Finished in beautifully trimmed Novillo black leather with Tobago Blue blue stitching, it remains in superb order.
Titan Shadow trim adorns the dash and door cards adding to the luxurious feel with the stitched leather. Heated seats and the superb Harman Kardon surround sound system (both rare options on the limited edition 500) cruise control, USB and phone connectivity, Navigation and climate control provide all the comforts of a cruiser. The programmable M button can transform the car into a formidable driving machine allowing pre programming of the DCT and traction control settings whilst tightening throttle response.
BMWs convertible features a special leather surface for the seats that reflects sunlight reducing the tendency for the seats to become uncomfortably hot with the top down.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The high revving V8 engine barks into life with a purposeful roar and quietens down after the warm up phase. Alfresco motoring allows for a more audible experience for the glorious V8 soundtrack. Satisfying blips from down changes from the fantastic DCT transmission are standard and become addictive. The engine is a masterpiece of engineering and sure to go down as one of the great high revving V8s
The 7 speed DCT gearbox is superb and a huge step on from BMW last SMG setup providing both smooth fully automatic function or manual changes.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The M Alloy double spoke 220 wheels are finished in high gloss black on the Limited Edition 500 model. These along with the gloss black shadow line trim provide a striking contrast against the mesmerising Santorini blue paintwork.
The wheels are wrapped in Michelin Supersport tyres all round with good tread levels.
Brakes are sharp with plenty of material left on both pad and disc.
