The BMW F30/F31 series is the sixth generation of the BMW 3 Series, which began production 2011 with the saloon. The model range was later expanded to include the Estate, Long wheelbase saloon (Chinese market only) and 5-door hatchback (“Gran Turismo”) body styles. For the sixth generation, the coupe and convertible models were split from the 3 Series and sold as the BMW 4 Series. The 5-door hatchback was marketed as the 3 Series Gran Turismo with the model code F34. The F30/F31 was the first time that the entire 3 Series range used turbocharged engines. For the 2016 model year (beginning production September 2015), the facelift (“Life Cycle Impulse”) versions were released, revealing 340i models (using the B58 engine) replace the 335i models (using the N55 engine).
The BMW B58 is a turbocharged direct injection straight-6 DOHC engine which began production in 2015. It was launched in the F30 340i. It is also part of BMW’s new modular engine family, which is based on each cylinder comprising 500cc following the B38 and B48 engine. Similar with its N55 predecessor, the B58 also features a single twin-scroll turbo, direct fuel injection, Dual Vanos and Valvetronic As the successor of the BMW N55 engine, the B58 also displaces 3.0 litre (though is slightly larger at 2998cc compared to 2979cc for the N55). It is also a bit bigger in its turbocharger with a 6 percent increase in turbine wheel size and 10 percent increase in compressor wheel diameter, resulting in a 20 percent increase in boost pressure.
The BMW Individual programme was established to provide unique exterior and interior customisation for owners around the globe. The colour - Citrine Black – is the result of a brilliant pigment, which is mixed with metal flakes to create a dazzling glitter effect that changes depending on the light; the surface looks like fine gold dust shimmering through a deep shade of black.

One of BMW’s most recent Individual programmes revealed the stunning Citrine Black - a sparkling, almost gold metallic that shifts to a menacing solid black in flat light. With the colour concept constantly changing depending upon conditions, the shape of this beautifully proportioned F31 can be enjoyed from all angles. Offset with dark shadowline trim, sun protection glass aft of the b pillar and chrome tips to the exhaust system, this Touring certainly looks and means business.
Given the car has covered just a handful of miles from new the car is in BMW showroom condition, further improved by our in-house detailing team to perfection.
The cabin space offers a perfect marriage of technology and tradition with sharp aluminium accents offset by Piano black inlays and Individual Cohiba leather. The detail afforded to the seats is remarkable, with stitching and perforations suiting a modern aesthetic without compromising contour or comfort. The panoramic roof opens up the cabin space beautifully while rear sun protection glass and blinds assist those travelling in the second row.
Comfort access, Media Package, Harman Kardon and Enhanced Bluetooth all offer safe and stylish considerations for every occasion. The boot area houses some clever additions, with automated opening, aluminium cargo divider and extended hidden storage.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
More so than in the N55, the B58 engine uses a water-to-air intercooler integrated into the intake plenum, thus reducing the charged air volume between the compressor and the intake. This increases performance by maintaining more even temperatures inside the intake. BMW has also incorporated an engine-mounted encapsulation system, which allows the engine to retain much of its heat for up to 36 hours which helps to reduce emissions and wear and tear during start-up, especially in colder climates. As a part of BMW’s new modular engine family, the crankcase is a completely new design and shared with the B57 diesel version, engineered as both a petrol and diesel engine in one common part.
The economy figure achieved by this petrol variant, is quoted at 40.1 mpg with a CO2 emissions at 164g/km putting it into an excellent car tax band G. An incredible technological achievement for a high powered petrol.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The Bicolour 442 M alloys offset the sinister Citrine paintwork beautifully, wrapped in new Bridgestone Potenza RFT tyres.
In terms of braking, M Sport variants now inherit a similar format provided to their M Power counterparts; powerful 4 pot front / 2 pot rear fixed calipers are now more than a match for the performance on offer.
This elegant Touring is in showroom condition having only covered nominal mileage since delivery to it’s first and only owner. A spec sheet detailing all factory specified options is included in the history file alongside the book pack and the spare key.
