The Audi RS6 Avant. An utterly dominant road weapon, known for its inexorable pace and security from its ‘quattro’ drivetrain. The figures are as impressive as the space the RS6 offers – 553 bhp and 516lb ft of torque from a 4.0 twin-turbo TFSI V8, 0 to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds and a top speed limited to 155 mph, raised to 174 mph if the Dynamic Package is fitted, or a frankly amazing 189 mph with the Dynamic Plus Pack. Audi claims an average fuel consumption of 27 mpg and CO2 emissions of 229g/km. In order to accomplish this Audi has added a start-stop system and a cylinder on demand system.
The RS6 is produced by Audi Sport GmbH, the high-performance subsidiary for Audi AG, part of the all encompassing Volkswagen Group. The first and second versions of the RS6 were produced as a five-door five-seat “Avant”, Audi’s name for an estate car–station wagon and a four-door five-seat saloon–sedan. The third generation was announced at the 2013 Detroit auto show, this time, only available as an Avant.
The RS6 Avant utilises an 8-speed tiptronic gearbox which harnesses and apportions the faintly ridiculous power through the security of Audi’s ‘quattro’ all wheel drive system.

Arguably there is no other estate that matches the visual impact or presence of the C7 RS6 which is further enhanced by the Crystal effect Panther black paintwork. This presents with layers of different colours depending on the light with purple, deep reds and brown flakes all making an appearance, making it hard to look away from one of Audis finest RS cars.
Matrix LED headlamps sit outside of huge grilles dominating the frontal area, with satin black flics inset into the lower mesh diverting air to the brakes. The brushed aluminium details offers a considered blend of definition with mirror caps, window surrounds and roof rails all set apart. The bodywork presents beautifully with no blemishes or marks to report.
The interior space is beyond question when it comes to quality, fit and finish. The enormous seats with their diamond stitched leather pattern offer superior levels of comfort and grip. Trick white lighting promotes further definition to the cabin space, with extended alcantara sandwiched by carbon and leather in the door cards. This well optioned example includes the panoramic roof which opens up the outside world to the interior, Head Up display, Parking assist, Top view camera, Bose sound system and Heated front/rear seats amongst a huge standard equipment list.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Whether it’s school on a Wednesday or Spa on a weekend – the C7 has it covered. Sensational sound and pace defy the weight and footprint of the car, absorbing and addictive in equal measure with the Quattro all wheel drive system generating huge levels of grip allowing you to exploit the twin-turbo charged V8 whether conditions are wet or dry.
Audi Drive select allows the attitude of the gearbox and throttle to change significantly, with the cylinder on demand (COD) system temporarily switching off four cylinders during part-load operation saving those MPGs.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The 21 inch gloss black alloy wheels look terrific whilst still offering an excellent ride and handling balance, and in this case unmarked, shrouded in Continental ContiSport 5p rubber, all with ample tread remaining. The brakes are more than up to the task of bringing the RS6 to a halt with a surefooted feel.
