The RS4 B7 is produced by Audi’s high-performance division quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm, Germany and based on the A4 platform. It was first showcased in February 2005 at Audi’s ‘Quattro Night’ in their headquarters in Ingolsta. They were made in limited numbers between 2006-2008, the RS4 became available in Europe in min 2006. Positioned above Audis ‘S’ model specification the ‘RS’ initials stand for ‘racing sport’ or ‘RennSport’ in German. RS models use Audis latest advancements in technology and is only available in Audis signiture drive train, quattro 4 wheel drive.
The engine in the B7 RS4 is based on the all-alloy 4.2 V8 also found in the B6 S4, a highly reworked, high-revving variant that utilised Fuel Stratified Injection (FSi). Reworked by Quattro engineers the engine includes a new cylinder block construction, increased crankcase breathing, a low-pressure fuel return system and a baffled oil sump, to prevent engine lubricant cavitation at high engine speeds and high-G cornering. It also has two overhead camshafts with variable valve timing on both exhaust and intake valves, fixed length intake runners with adjustable tumble flaps resulting in 90 per cent of the total torque being available between 2,250 and 7,600 rpm. At the time the Audi B7 RS4 was the only “RS” powered by a naturally aspirated engine.
For weight saving reasons the B7 was made from a fully galvanised steel monocoque design and uses lightweight aluminium panels for both its bonnet and front wings, it also has wider flared wheel arches to accommodate a wider axle track. There are two large frontal side air intakes to cool the additional side mounted radiators. The B7 RS4 also included a factory option called the ‘Optic pack’ which included matt black exterior trim, front grilles, twin exhausts and black roof rails on the estate version. The Audi RS4 was the winner in the ‘World Performance Car’ category of the International World Car of the Year in 2007, fending off such opponents as the Porsche 911 Turbo, Jaguar XKR, Porsche 911 GT3, and the Ferrari 599 GTB.

Audi have forged a unique reputation in creating performance saloons and with the B7 they remain true to form with deep sills, wide arches and huge road presence. The Phantom black paintwork is in excellent condition all round with only an isolated dusting of chips to front bumper and lights, the front end is extremely clean pointing to a careful and fastidious ownership. With bold arches, much like the B5, there is scope for peppering but again there is nothing major to report. Added is the black optics pack which includes the window trims and front grille adding to an already menacing looking car with an all black theme.
The fit and finish of the modern day Audi is exemplary and the cabin here has worn particularly well. Specified with comfort seats, punched with RS4 at the top and finished in soft nappa leather, they are not quite as visually stimulating or supportive as the wing back recaros but they are no doubt a much more practical and comfortable choice in a 4 door saloon giving more room for rear passenger and a much more comfortable entry and exit in an out of the car. The brushed aluminium trim creates a smart contrast to the dark cabin and helps define the cars features. Push button start is standard along with a punched leather steering wheel and gearknob that remain in excellent condition showing little wear from its minimal mileage. The carpets, gearbox tunnel and entry strips are pleasingly free of marks with switchgear in excellent condition and in fine operational order.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The high revving 4.2 V8 under the bonnet makes for an addictive soundtrack and looks ever bit the part, on show and surrounded with RS4 logos and carbon trim rather than hidden under plastic covers. The exhaust is tuned to create a aural symphony of V8 burble and fitted with exhaust valves controlled with the dash sport button, black exhaust tailpipes add to the dark theme of this super saloon.
The 6 speed Getrag manual gearbox is mated to Audis Torsen based quattro system providing superior grip in all weather conditions. Having just been serviced at Audi main agents the mechanics are in perfect working order.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The double spoke alloy wheels are in excellent condition and finished in a dark shade of anthracite. Shod in a matching set of Audi approved A0 Continental Sport Contacts all round, tyre tread is consistently good on all four corners
The Audi Brembo gloss black 8 pot brakes provide huge stopping power and having been treated to fastidious service intervals maintain excellent feel and performance.
With excellent Audi Main dealer history (7 Main dealer, 1 specialist stamp) and only 2 previous owner, the service file presents well for a car with such minimal mileage, with all books and manuals available annotating Audi’s long life and yearly servicing schedule.
The car come complete with 2 keys, book pack, all MOT’s and servicing invoices. It has just been freshly serviced and MOT’d at our local Audi main dealer so is ready to be used and enjoyed.
